about 32 bit application and odbc to access 64 bit SQL Server 2005

Hello
Our application currently is running on IIS machine with Windows 2003 32 bit
OS installed and database server machine with Windows 2000 32 bit OS and SQL
server 2000 installed.
We are thinking to upgrade the database server to Windows 2003 64 bit OS and
SQL server 2005 64 bit.
The IIS machine is still on 32 bit OS and application, We are wondering if
there is any problem for 32 bit application and ODBC to access the 64 bit
database?

accesing 64-bit databases.
Most of the connectivity issues I have seen is connecting SQL Server 64-bit
to Oracle but there is always a solution.

recreate. What you supplied is not much info. You may need to filter on the

I would like to have a long running query aborted by SQL server, such that,
that query does not become a resource Hog and I can catch that in my client
side code and display a nice error message to the user.
Any way I could do that?

You can set a query timeout from your client code and roll the
transaction back if you hit the timeout. But that can only be done on
the client. From the server, you can use the SET
QUERY_GOVERNOR_COST_LIMIT server option to limit queries from runnning
that are too costly.

Able to connect via local host but not server

I have a page that connects to SQL server. It works fine when running in local host but when I publish to the server, I get the following:

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

Any ideas on where to start?

A syntex problem.....I think

Have a SQL paramater query running in VBA. Fails on the line that requests information. The problem is the brackets [] that are used to input data to make the query operate between certain limits. I used Between [enter x] and [enter y] which does not work in VBA. If I use Between #01/01/2004# and #07/30/2004# it works with the fixed data. The query works just fine in the normal Access 2000 gui but not in VBA.
Can anybody help with this problem. I have looked high and low but find everything else but what to do with the brackets in a SQL VBA application.

DonThe use of brackets in a query is an MS-Access specific feature... VBA doesn't directly support that functionality. You will have to code the parameter entry screen and build the query in VBA.

A strange problem with SQL query fro getting field names

I have been trying to get this code work, but I could not. Every thing seems going well. However, The result of running the sql query is strange. It shows the field names twice.

A single computer cannot connect to MSDE

I have an instance of MSDE running that have 3 computers connected to it and
using it no problems. 1 computer cannot connect or even see msde when
enumerating sql servers using sqldmo. This computer can ping the server msde
is on no problem. My thought was to next look at the netlibrary on the
server and on the client and verify both TCP and named pipes setup. Any
further suggestions on how to get this fixed would be appreciated. There is
not a firewall issue.

I Have an application for Pocket PC 2003 developed in Visual Studio 2003(VB.Net , Smart Device App). I Use Sql Server CE as the database which Synchronizes with Sql Server 2000, SP4. The IIS and the Sql Server 2000 are in different Machines. I Have Installed the proper Sqlserver Ce in the IIS machine and created virtual directory with Basic authentication.I connect my device through Active Sync 3.7. I could browse the sscesa20.dll from Pocket IE and get the ' SQL Server CE Server Agent ' message. The PC to which my pocket PC is connected is under a Proxy.

When I tried the RDA.Pull() , the function fails and returns the error
" Error Code: 80072EE7

Minor Error : 28037
Source: Sql Server 2000 Windows CE Edition. "

The same application works in other network which is not under a proxy.

Any clues ?

This is a solution which I found online and it works for me.

1.

Click Start, click Run, type firewall.cpl, and then click OK.

2.

In the Windows Firewall dialog box, click the Advanced tab.

3.

In the Network Connection Settings box, click the connection that your computer uses, and then click Settings.

4.

In the Advanced Settings dialog box, click Web Server (HTTP), and then click Secure Web Server (HTTPS).

Note For additional information about when you must allow users to access the Secure Web Server (HTTPS) on your computer, see the "More Information" section.

I have SSL on Proxy Server which redirect the request to web server. Communication between Client and Proxy use SSL but the communication between PROXY and Web Server is normal (without SSL). I installed Sql Server Mobile Tool on Web Server and configured virtual directory without SSL and Basic Authentication. When client hit this URL from out side of the world, it must go through SSL on Proxy. When I directly go to URL (https://website/test/sqlcesa30.dll) on web browser, it's working fine. But when i use it in my .Net code i am getting error as above.

Same code is working without SSL on proxy.

Can you please tell me what could be the problem?

I am getting following error

"A request to send data to the computer running IIS has failed. For more information, see HRESULT."

I have SSL on Proxy Server which redirect the request to web server. Communication between Client and Proxy use SSL but the communication between PROXY and Web Server is normal (without SSL). I installed Sql Server Mobile Tool on Web Server and configured virtual directory without SSL and Basic Authentication. When client hit this URL from out side of the world, it must go through SSL on Proxy. When I directly go to URL (https://website/test/sqlcesa30.dll) on web browser, it's working fine. But when i use it in my .Net code i am getting error as above.

Same code is working without SSL on proxy.

Can you please tell me what could be the problem?

I Have an application for Pocket PC 2003 developed in Visual Studio 2003(VB.Net , Smart Device App). I Use Sql Server CE as the database which Synchronizes with Sql Server 2000, SP4. The IIS and the Sql Server 2000 are in different Machines. I Have Installed the proper Sqlserver Ce in the IIS machine and created virtual directory with Basic authentication.I connect my device through Active Sync 3.7. I could browse the sscesa20.dll from Pocket IE and get the ' SQL Server CE Server Agent ' message. The PC to which my pocket PC is connected is under a Proxy.

When I tried the RDA.Pull() , the function fails and returns the error
" Error Code: 80072EE7
A request to send data to the computer running IIS has failed. For more information see HRESULT. [,,,,,]
Minor Error : 28037
Source: Sql Server 2000 Windows CE Edition. "

The same application works in other network which is not under a proxy.

Any clues ?

1. Click Start, click Run, type firewall.cpl, and then click OK. 2. In the Windows Firewall dialog box, click the Advanced tab. 3. In the Network Connection Settings box, click the connection that your computer uses, and then click Settings. 4. In the Advanced Settings dialog box, click Web Server (HTTP), and then click Secure Web Server (HTTPS).

A problem with the SYSLOGINS view?

While attempting to write a stored proc, on a SQL Server 2000 machine running win2k, that would back up all the user logins, I noticed something a little odd in the syslogins view. I was wondering if anyone else has this problem.

Make sure you have a non NT login with a password on your server and you are viewing your results in query analyzer in grid mode.

do a Select * from master..syslogins

Now, look at the password column. On mine, if the password is not null, then it makes the field blank and bumps the rest of the results over one. So the in the language column, I see the encrypted password, and in the deny login column I see the default language... anyone else noticed this?Can anyone else please just try this so that I know I am not off my rocker? One of our SQL servers here at work contains back end databases for customers websites. As you can imagine there are quite a few databases. (Over 1000) Each customer has a SQL login with access granted to their appropriate database. That login information is saved, as you know, in the sysxlogins table in the master database. Now in our back up schema, master isnt backed up that often, so we needed a method of backing up the login info. My original thought was to take the information from syslogins and script it into a table in a database that is backed up every 15 minutes. This is needed because on average 3 to 5 new databases can be added per day, and 2 to 3 deleted. When I went to select the records from the syslogins, I realized that the view had the bug and wanted to make sure that it was everywhere and not only on my machines.

As for the solution, I pull the login data directly from sysxlogins table and populate my Login_Info table. And all is happy. :D|||I just wanted to make sure - I have been using this view without problems - it retrieves and stores the data appropriately. Only through qa in grid mode does this problem appear.

I am looking at some profiler logging and gets a lot of the lines looking
like:
exec sp_cursorfetch 180150024, 2, 0, 1
This comes after running a simple prosedure that select some lines.
All i VB6. I guess it has something to do on how we retrieve data (ADO).
Does anyone have a few hints on where to look to get rid of all these lines.
Or what to try.
